Separated from the rest of Brunei by a strip of Malaysian territory, Temburong is the Sultanate’s wild and untamed heart. Covering almost half of the country’s land area yet home to only a small fraction of its population, this remote district is famed for its pristine rainforest, much of which has remained protected for decades. Historically isolated from the more developed western districts, Temburong has retained a strong connection to nature and traditional rural life, earning a reputation as one of Southeast Asia’s most successful conservation stories.

The district’s principal attraction is Ulu Temburong National Park, an extraordinary expanse of primary rainforest often described as the “Green Jewel of Brunei”. Accessible by river and jungle trails, the park offers visitors the chance to experience one of the oldest rainforests on earth. Its most iconic sight is the canopy walkway, which rises above the treetops to reveal sweeping views across an endless sea of emerald-green forest, particularly spectacular at sunrise.

Beyond the national park, visitors can enjoy longboat journeys along clear rivers, gentle jungle walks, and opportunities to spot hornbills, monkeys, and a rich variety of tropical plant life. Combined with Brunei’s commitment to environmental protection, Temburong offers a rare opportunity to experience Borneo’s rainforest at its most pristine and rewarding.
