Situated at the crossroads of the world in the heart of Central Asia, Uzbekistan is one of the jewels of the Ancient Silk Road. The influences of all the cultures which have passed through over the millennia are evident in the streets of Uzbekistan’s towns and cities, in the faces of the people you pass, and in the cuisine you eat along the way. The main draw for travellers to Uzbekistan is the exceptionally well-preserved Silk Road architecture, particularly in the main highlights of Bukhara, Khiva and Samarkand. Uzbekistan is famous for the three Ms – Mosques, Minarets and Madrassahs – and you will see plenty of them all! For a break from the history, you can also head away from the towns and cities to go hiking in the Chimgan Mountains, stay overnight in a yurt in the Kyzyl-Kum Desert, witness the fast-disappearing Aral Sea, or meet master craftspeople in the Fergana Valley.
