Bandipur National Park is located just south of Nagarhole National Park, towards the southern tip of Karnataka, also falling under the boundary of the wider Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Formerly a royal hunting ground, the park is now a protected area of 80 sq km and is home to around 100 species of mammal including elephant, gaur, python, antelope, and of course the elusive (and lesser-spotted) tiger. Largely spread over hills and forests, the park is considered to be one of the quieter and more attractive of south India's reserves.
