Highlights of East Kyrgyzstan
Eastern Kyrgyzstan is home to the country’s second largest city, Karakol. The city itself has enough sites to fill a half-day but travellers mainly stay here for the city’s amazing access to nearby areas of natural beauty. There are many hiking routes, of varying lengths of difficulty, which are accessible from the city. A couple of hours away from Karakol, the serene and beautiful Karkara Valley straddles the border with Kazakhstan, and offers opportunities to really get away from the tourist trail and stay in a remote yurt camp.
