The gorgeous Chon Kemin Valley is located to the east of Bishkek, and it is a very picturesque place to break up your journey from the capital city to Lake Issyk-Kul or Lake Son-Kul. The Chon Kemin River flows for over 70 miles along the border with Kazakhstan, passing through a lush forested gorges and with seven lakes in its basin. The scenery in the protected Chon Kemin Valley is mostly untouched and brimming with natural beauty. Accommodation is in locally owned guesthouses, which are located in small settlements and usually include some hearty local meals. Activities such as horse-riding and trekking can be arranged in the local area.
