Ban Chiang Community Experience
Upon arriving in the tranquil and historically significant village of Ban Chiang—designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site—visitors are greeted with a warm welcome from the local Tai Phuan women, who often showcase their vibrant and traditional Thai Phuan dance. Your first stop is the Ban Chiang National Museum, home to an extensive collection of pottery and artefacts dating back approximately 4,000–7,500 years. These items were excavated from a nearby site and offer a fascinating insight into some of the earliest known inhabitants of the region.
Following the museum visit, the itinerary continues to the excavation site at Wat Pho Si Nai, located around 600 metres away. This short journey can be made by tram provided by the museum or by a leisurely walk through the village’s main street, offering opportunities to browse local shops and engage with residents along the way. After exploring the excavation site, you will enjoy a traditional Thai lunch at the award‑winning Ban Chiang Homestay. The meal typically includes fresh salad and satay starters, local pork sausage, rice, sweet mango, red onion, and a comforting soup, complemented by refreshing coconut water served straight from the husk.
Following lunch, you will have the chance to participate in a hands-on pottery painting activity, recreating traditional tribal patterns on a clay jug. All materials are provided by the homestay, with the workshop conveniently located in an adjoining room.
